CenterPoint Legacy Theatre’s rendition of My Fair Lady is everything you would hope from the beloved classic, and more!

I’ve seen many shows on the Barlow stage and have loved them all, but this one may have been my favorite. The scenery, the music and the characters pulled me in and made me feel like I was right there on the streets of London. Every member of the cast played their character in a way that you could relate to and feel for. You could feel the emotions from each scene ripple through the audience, whether it was laughter, anger or sadness. I’ve been telling everyone I know to go see the show and have been tempted to see it again myself.

I felt every emotion with her…

Eliza Doolitte, played by Meghan Stettler, is charming and spunky and we couldn’t help but fall in love with her the moment she stepped on stage! Her cockney accent is on point and the way she transitions from a poor flower girl to a Duchess is beautiful and inspirational. I felt every emotion with her, as she struggled through her journey and worked hard to figure out how her past self fit with her future. Stettler’s vocal skills only add to Eliza’s character and make you love her more!

It was hard to hate Henry Higgins, played by Ricky Parkinson, when his character was played in such a detestably wonderful way. From his creatively awful insults and name calling to his obvious inability to be humble, Henry Higgins is the most lovable “villain” I’ve ever seen. His perfectly awful “gentleman” charm elicited laughter from the audience in every scene. Parkinson’s on stage chemistry with Stettler (Doolittle) was perfect and the two of them together delighted the entire audience from curtain up to the final bow.

If I could, I would highlight every single cast member.

The cast as a whole made the show what it was. I loved the character of Freddy, Eliza’s suitor, played by Austin Smith! He was charming and lovable and has some seriously amazing vocal talent. Although I love the relationship between Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle, I was rooting for Freddy and Eliza through the entire show.

Another favorite was Colonel Pickering, played by Dan Haltinner, who takes the backseat in every scene, but is extra kind and loving as he attempts to mediate Henry and Eliza’s disagreements throughout the play. It is hard not to love every person on the stage because they brought their characters to life in such a personable way!

My Fair Lady reminded me to stay true to who I am…

My Fair Lady reminded me to stay true to who I am. And not be afraid to face my weaknesses head on, to use them as a jumping off point for improvement. Audiences of all ages will find themselves laughing, wanting to sing along to well loved tunes, and feeling every emotion right along with the characters on stage. My Fair Lady is playing on the Barlow stage at CenterPoint Theatre through July 13th, click here to purchase tickets. You will love the performance and might even walk away singing songs from the show for the next week like I did!
