Antelope Island State Park

Biking on Antelope Island

One of the best and most unique mountain biking spots in Davis County is at Antelope Island State Park. Antelope Island is the largest island in the Great Salt Lake and features tons of hiking, mountain biking, and its own herd of bison. We recommend heading to Antelope Island State Park in the morning, as the animals are usually most active then.

The Mountain View Trail is an easy beginner level, 22-mile out-and-back trail (around 11 miles each way). You’ll ride along the shoreline of the Great Salt Lake, which makes for a unique experience. On the secluded island, you’ll feel like you’re truly in the wild. The area is home to thousands of birds and hundreds of bison, antelope, and other wildlife that you may encounter during your ride. The view of the lake and mountains in the distance are especially stunning during sunrise or sunset, so be sure to have a camera handy. The trail is open all year long, but it’s best to ride in early spring and fall to avoid the bugs that are more abundant during the summer.

Home-Style Eating

Antelope Island State Park is about 45 minutes away from your next biking destination, so you’ll want to stop and grab lunch along the way. Holy Smoke BBQ and grill is just off the freeway in between your two destinations and is a delicious pit stop. Holy Smoke is one of the most popular and loved restaurants in Davis County. Their menu includes a wide range of American barbecue and a plethora of home-style sides, all topped with Holy Smoke’s line of house-made BBQ sauce. Popular menu items include burnt ends, tri-tip sandwich, pork ribs, cornbread, and hush puppies.

Other great lunch options nearby include Roosters Brewing Co., C & B Maddox Famous Chicken, and MacCool’s Public House.

Fruit Loops

Fruit Loops, the nickname for the mountain biking trail in Fruit Heights, Utah, is brand new to Davis County and has become very popular with the mountain biking community. This is a one-way trail system that is great for all skill levels. Follow the easy, intermediate, or advanced trail for an awesome ride through the Wasatch Mountains. This trail has lots of downhill stretches and makes for a fun (and fast!) ride that you can do over and over again. Read more about this ride here and get detailed info from Trail Forks here.

Beefy Burgers

After a day full of mountain biking, you’re sure to be hungry and we know the perfect place. About 15 minutes north of Fruit Loops is one of the best burger joints in Davis County- Burly Burger. Burly Burger is a locally owned and operated restaurant that doesn’t mess around with its burgers. Their burgers are large, fresh, and include topping combinations you can’t get at any old burger joint. Try their Swanson Burger with bacon, cheese, egg, tomato, and lettuce; or The Farley- topped with their signature buffalo chicken strips, lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing.

If Burly Burger isn’t what you are craving or is too far north for you, head on over to Station Park and enjoy one of their 30 restaurants like Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar, Santorini’s Greek Grill, and more.
