Documentary Screening & Night Sky Viewing

What: 80% of the world’s population live under light polluted skies. What do we lose when we lose sight of the stars? Excessive and improper lighting robs us of our night skies, disrupts our sleep patterns and endangers nocturnal habitats. Saving the Dark explores the need to preserve night skies and ways to combat light pollution. Director Sriram Murali took it upon himself to raise awareness of light pollution through the creation of this film. Viewing of the film is free. Park entrance fees apply. Following the film, we will be doing a short night sky program. RSVP required by emailing wendywilson@utah.gov.

Bald Eagle Viewing at Farmington Bay

Division of Wildlife Resources names February ‘Bald Eagle Month’ because of the high number migrating through Utah at this time.

When: Sat., Feb. 9th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area at 1157 S. Waterfowl Way, Farmington, UT 84025

What: Eagle viewing will happen outside from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spotting scopes will be set up, and biologists with the DWR and volunteers from Wasatch Audubon will be on hand to answer your questions.

Activities inside the Wildlife Center will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They include getting close to a live eagle in the conservation hall and taking your kids into the wetland discovery classroom, where volunteers will help them make an eagle-themed craft. You can also learn more about bald eagles at programs offered in the auditorium – a new program starts every hour. Visit the conservation hall welcome desk to see the topics that will be presented.
