2020 is off to a great start in Davis County! Holiday festivities are over, but there are still tons of great events and activities taking place in the County. Be sure to share the fun you have this month with #PlayInDavis! 

Exploration to Discover Beacon Knob

When: January 1, 2020 at 1:00 pm

Where: Antelope Island

What: Start 2020 with us, as we set off on an exploration to discover Beacon Knob.

Meet the Park Naturalist at the Gravel Pit Trailhead at 1:00pm for a 5.2 mile moderate hike to the historic Beacon Knob.  This is a Snow-Or-Shine event.  Dress appropriately and bring plenty of water.  No water or restrooms are available on this trail.  Hot Chocolate will be available at our destination.

Antelope Chamber Players

When: January 3, 2020 from 7:00-8:00 pm

Where: Alpine Church

What: The Antelope Chamber Players are a nonprofit chamber music ensemble based in Bountiful, Utah.  The group’s mission is to provide “live and local” chamber music to the Bountiful area community – a regular series of live concerts, with a group comprised of local Davis County professional musicians.  Cellist Steven Farr and violist Staci Armstrong formed the ensemble in 2018 and began playing concerts and raising funds for an inaugural season to begin in 2019.

Once On This Island Jr.

When: January 9-30, 2020

Where: CenterPoint Legacy Theatre

What: With its poignant story and catchy Caribbean-flavored score, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred, and even death.

Sunset/Moonrise from Buffalo Point

When: January 10, 2020 at 5:00 pm

Where: Antelope Island

What: Discover the beauty of an Antelope Island Sunset, and the rise of the full moon from Buffalo Point. Meet the Park Naturalist at the Buffalo Point trailhead at 5:00pm for a short, approximately 1 mile round trip exploration.  No reservations are required.  Regular park entrance fees apply.  Contact tackley@utah.gov with questions.

**Important Update**
Due to icy trail conditions we’ve decided to change the location of this hike. We will now be meeting at the Gravel Pit trailhead at 4:30pm. Snowy weather is in the forecast between now and then so please come prepared with good traction. Ice will be less severe on this trail – but still likely in some places. 

 

Master Class by On Pitch Performing Arts- The Mentally Tough Actor with Stefanie Gallagher

When: January 11, 2020 from 1:00-3:00 pm

What: It takes a great deal of mental toughness to navigate the highs and lows that come with the world of theater, especially the audition/casting process. So how does an actor become mentally tough? In this masterclass, we will explore how to view the casting process differently, a new way for actors to look at goal setting, how your feelings (positive and negative) can help steer your growth and what the number one thing is for an Actor to know about themselves and their choices.

Family Art Night @ BDAC

When: Second Monday of each month (January 13th) from 6:30-8:00 pm

Where: Bountiful Davis Arts Center

What: Every second Monday of the month, BDAC opens the art center for a free family art night. Parents and their children explore the galleries and create a work of art related to the current exhibition. January activity: Doodle Play. This month we’ll be playing with different creative ways of drawing using different prompts. No drawing skills required. Peter and the Starcatcher

When: January 17-February 15, 2020

What: Based on the celebrated children’s books by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher takes us on a journey to discover how Peter Pan and his gang of friends and Captain Hook and his band of pirates, and even the magical Tinker Bell landed in Neverland and became enduring friends from our childhood. An imaginative prequel to the beloved Peter Pan, this enchanting story delights the inner child in every one of us.

Stop Motion Video for Kids

When: January 18, 2020 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Where: Bountiful Davis Arts Center

What: Students will learn the basics of lighting, photography and sculpture as they create an animated stop motion video using their own original clay creations. Videos will be uploaded to the internet on either a public or a private link, and students keep the clay creations they make! The Drowsy Chaperone at OPPA!

When: January 24- February 15, 2020

Where: On Pitch Performing Arts Center

What: The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight. Mixed Media Encaustic Sampler

When: January 25, 2020 from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm

Where: Bountiful Davis Arts Center

What: This workshop is mixed media and focuses on layering materials in an archival way.  Participants will do a painting and then layer ephemera on top using beeswax.  Then they will have an opportunity to add additional layers through carving, and oil based mediums.  This is a fun experimental class.  Participants should bring an image they would like to paint or any personal ephemera.   All other materials will be provided.  Each participant will finish with an 8 x 10 painting on a board. Handwriting Day at Antelope Island

When: January 25, 2020 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm

Where: Fielding Garr Ranch at Antelope Island

What: January 23 is National Handwriting Day! To celebrate, Fielding Garr Ranch will have a variety of papers, pens, and pencils for visitors to create a good old-fashioned piece of literature. Clown U

When: Every Wednesday from January 15th-29th from 4:15-5:45 pm

Where: Bountiful Davis Arts Center

What: Come explore the theatrical arts through the fun of clowning. Create your own clown character, learn to do your own make up, create your own acts, explore improv and comedy, learn magic tricks, and the making of balloon animals. Discover the many ways clowns share joy and create fun for parades, parties, hospital visits, and in the circus ring. Tots Art Adventure

What: Come join us for Tots Art Adventure with Lindsay McBride. This class is for parents/grandparents and their little artists ages 18 months to 10 years old to come and create together! This means that the parent participates in the class to help their artist(s) have a fun and safe experience. We will have a theme that we will be learning about through stories and an art project. There will be two project options to choose from one for the older kids and one simpler option for the younger children. Our theme for the day will be Winter Wonderland.
