When one goes on vacation, the last thing they expect to happen is to have their plane re-routed to behind the iron curtain, accused of being a spy, and to seek asylum at the US Embassy, yet, this is exactly what happens to the loud and obnoxious New Jersey family, the Hollanders in the Leishman Hall at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre’s hilarious Woody Allen comedy, Don’t Drink the Water.
When Walter Hollander takes a picture of a beautiful sunset in a sensitive area in an unnamed country, the communist police seek to take him as a prisoner for espionage. Seeking refuge at the US Embassy, the Hollanders find that they are in the hands of the woefully, underqualified son of the missing Ambassador, Axel. It’s going to take someone with their wits about them and brains in their head to figure out how to get the Hollander’s home – and we aren’t quite sure Axel is the man to do it.
Directed by Carissa Klitgaard this loveable cast will take you on a crazy and fun-filled adventure. “Don’t Drink the Water” is a delightful time at the theater that will leave your stomach sore from all the belly laughs.
